Finding Rhode Island Maps

I recently went on a road trip with a friend, and part of our journey took us to Rhode Island. I had never been there before, and I needed to get directions and Rhode Island maps to help us along. I wish I had gotten a better map, because believe me, ending up lost on a foggy road named “Purgatory” in the middle of the night was not the most pleasant experience I’ve ever had. The Rhode Island maps I had in my possession were not good, and I wish I had made sure I had more detailed maps to help me find my way.

You can buy traditional paper Rhode Island maps if you want to visit this tiny state, or you can find them online. What I found to be disconcerting about reading a map of this state was that because Rhode Island is so small, I was misjudging the distance. Because I normally travel around New York and Pennsylvania, I was used to it taking must longer to traverse the width of a state. I found myself getting lost simply because I was misjudging distances. A large detailed paper map would have done me a world of good in this case.

Because Rhode Island is so small, it’s easy to misjudge the distance, and you may find yourself doing the same thing I did. My hotel offered me a variety of Rhode Island maps that lead to beaches and other attractions. I found that I misjudged every single trip we took, even though I will admit that is my own fault. The maps were not faulty, I was. Regardless, remember the size of the state when reading Rhode Island maps so you aren’t left crossing this tiny but beautiful state in total frustration.

You can also get Rhode Island maps online, but make sure you get the right one. I found the few I had downloaded where too vague. They also didn’t indicate bridges like they should have, and toll markings were non-existent. If you have never been somewhere, it is important to know about tolls you may have to pay. The road names were confusing, and my downloaded Rhode Island maps did not reflect this accurately. Another problem I had was deciding if I need to boat to get to my destination, because quite frankly, the map was not giving me much information. It looked like a road was there, but I wasn’t quite sure.
